"The objective of interview make-up is to look pleasant and in control," says Bobbi Brown, make-up artist and CEO of Bobbi Brown Cosmetics. But a lot of women make the mistake of wearing either no makeup (thinking it'll make them look more serious) or too much makeup (thinking it'll make them look more sophisticated). The ideal look should be somewhere in between.

When it comes to makeup, stick to matte, earth-tone shades for the eyes and conservative lip colors. Avoid bright shades and anything with a glittery finish.

Your manicure should be neutral as well. "As stylish as dark polish can be, a potential employer may not agree," explains Rubin.
