Is It Appropriate To Wear Black To A Wedding?

Would you wear an all-black dress? Take our poll.
A black number has all the virtues you'd look for in a dress -- it's eternally chic, it's versatile, and it's slimming, too. But because it is also the color traditionally associated with mourning, is it considered bad etiquette to wear black to a wedding? We want to hear your thoughts: Would you wear an all-black outfit to a friend's wedding? Take our poll now.

There's no 100 percent right or wrong, but if you're planning to wear a black cocktail dress, here are some tips to make it more acceptable.

1. Break up the monotony
Prints and designs that break up the monochromatic look is a good bet, especially if they incorporate some brighter colors. A color-block dress or a black-and-pink floral frock is perfectly acceptable.

2. Look for festive details
If you're going to wear an LBD to a wedding, think sheen and sparkle. A classy black dress in shiny satin or silk, for example, is more appropriate than a somber matte number. Likewise, pick LBDs embellished with shimmery sequins, beads or a bejeweled neckline.

3. Add punch with bright accessories
Try a colorful necklace, a bright shawl, a metallic purse or even red pumps to brighten up an otherwise all-black ensemble.
